BMI View: While Pakistan's military offensive in South Waziristan has progressed well, we believe that any headway made against the Taliban will be short-lived. Indeed, in the near-term Pakistan is likely to be plagued by further Taliban attacks with no quick resolution to this internal struggle on the horizon. Medium-term success will be very much the hostage of Pakistan's economic prospects and US policy in Afghanistan.
