We see increasing danger of unrest after parliamentary elections in April. Indeed, the increased violence in trouble spots including Papua and Aceh would indicate that separatist movements in those regions persist. In addition, the possibility of large-scale fraud in the East Java gubernatorial election has also thrown doubts unto the legitimacy of the elections. We see no clear way out unless the General Elections Commission (KPU) is able to assure voters about the fairness of the voting process. We see risks of political parties challenging the results of the polls, thereby leading to a disorderly post-election situation.
