The government has pledged, in its latest five-year plan, to continue its affirmative action plan aimed at raising the wealth of the ethnic Malay population. Ethnic Malays make up over half of the population but own less than 20% of the listed equity. The government hopes to raise this percentage to 20-25% over the next five years, by focusing on the training of Malay entrepreneurs
