Amid protests by thousands of students across Indonesia on May 12, the Golkar party (the largest in parliament with 129 out of 550 seats) is facing a dilemma over whether to support President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's proposed increase in fuel prices. Golkar leader Jusuf Kalla, who is vice-president and a potential presidential contender in the 2009 presidential elections, supports the plan.
