BMI View: Thailand's economy expanded by a faster-than-expected 4.8% in 2007, due in large part to the country's resilient export sector. Thai merchandise exports rose a solid 18.1% in 2007, but we expect that with the ongoing downturn in the US economy, combined with a strong baht, it will not be able to remain supportive of growth over the coming year. However, a concomitant rise in private and public sector economic activity will keep the economy afloat, allowing growth to remain at 4.8% in
