Vietnam gave its support to a third package of sanctions against Iran in the United Nations Security Council on March 3, sending a further message to Tehran to cease its efforts to attain nuclear weapons. Vietnam initially joined South Africa, Libya and Indonesia in questioning the need for further sanctions as reports from nuclear watchdog IAEA claimed that Tehran had improved its co-operation with UN inspectors, but lobbying efforts by France, Germany and the UK secured a 14-0 vote, with only Indonesia abstaining.
