BMI View: Although apprehensions over security have eased sufficiently to permit the go-ahead of national and provincial elections on February 18, Pakistan will endure a renewal of political tensions following the elections. While we expect the governing Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) to suffer significant losses due to its support of President Pervez Musharraf, it is likely that no single party will emerge with a majority in the National Assembly. Consequently, we anticipate an uneasy period of horse-trading as dominant parties try to build a governing coalition.
