Indian MPs on both sides of the political spectrum united to condemn US legislators for what they claim was an unbridled attempt to influence foreign policy through the controversial nuclear trade deal. Letters written by both Republican and Democratic legislators warned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that diplomatic ties with Iran had significant potential to harm India-US relations and the landmark deal. One of the letters, published in an a local newspaper, urged India to end what they said was 'military cooperation' with Iran, which Brinda Karat, head of the Communist Party of India, called an insult to the prime minister
