The revival of the Japanese economy since 2003 has been accompanied by a substantial increase in Japanese outward foreign direct investment (FDI), which rose by 10.3% to a record US$50.165bn in 2006, according to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). This was almost double the US$28.767bn invested abroad in 2003. Overall, the resurgence of Japanese FDI should benefit Asia, although other parts of the wider world also stand to gain.
