Bangladesh's Chief Election Commissioner A.T.M. Shamsul Huda stated on April 5 that it could take up to 18 months to complete a definitive electoral register, which is regarded as a necessity ahead of fresh elections. His comments suggest that the next general election, which was originally set for January 22 but subsequently postponed to late 2007, might not happen until late 2008.
