Malaysia's former deputy Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has been snubbed by his political party in his bid to run for presidency in June. Mr Anwar announced his decision to stand, providing his party backed him, despite being barred from political office until April 2008. Mr Anwar served six years in prison for corruption and sodomy, but was released from prison in September 2004 after courts overturned the latter charge on appeal.
