Singapore's non-resident ambassador to Iran, Gopinath Pillai, met Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki in late November, where the two underlined the necessity of expanding bilateral political, cultural and economic cooperation. Mottaki emphasised that Singapore could play an active role in regional developments, given the country's political and economic capabilities, referring to the recent developments in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
