The general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, visited Laos in October and met with the general secretary of the ruling Lao People's Revolutionary party, to discuss economic and political ties. They aim to strengthen bilateral trade, while Laos wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience in strengthening its legal system. The Lao side also hopes to attract Vietnamese investment in its transport and energy
