Resumed peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have reached an impasse again over the long-running issue of creating a Muslim homeland in the south of the predominantly Roman Catholic country. Frequent talks with MILF, the largest of four Muslim rebel groups in the Southern Philippines, have been held in an attempt to end an insurgency that has resulted in the death of over 120,000 people since the early 1960s.
