Myanmar will face another year of US sanctions, after President George Bush signed into law an extension of the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act, that could bar bilateral trade for up to three years. The extension comes just after a condemnation of Myanmar's ruling junta by the normally sedate Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). Asean ministers urged Myanmar to show 'tangible progress that would lead to peaceful transition to democracy in the near future.' The SPDC will take these rebukes in stride, and trumpet progress by the National Convention in fulfilling the first of seven steps enshrined in the
