A coalition of opposition politicians, church leaders and left-wing activists has filed new impeachment charges against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who continues to resist calls to resign over allegations that she cheated in the May 2004 elections. Arroyo has sufficient support in the House of Representatives (lower house of congress) to avert a trial in the Senate, which is controlled by the opposition.
