In December a small bomb exploded in Yangon killing a university student. No one has claimed responsibility although the government has blamed "destructive elements" for the attacks. Bomb attacks in Myanmar are rare: a bomb exploded in Yangon in last June but prior to this the last recorded incident was in March 2003.
