BMI's forecast of 6.8% real GDP growth in 2004 holds despite disappointing growth in the first quarter of 6.5%. The poor Q1 performance has been put down mostly to the outbreak of avian bird flu in the first two months of the year. This has now been effectively contained, and is unlikely to have any lasting effect on the economy.
