The US has announced plans to sell up to 36 F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, as part of a package deal that could be worth more than US$5bn.The Pentagon said the sale would contribute to national security by 'helping an ally meet its legitimate defence requirements.' India's Foreign Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna expressed concern over the proposal, saying it would set back attempts to improve ties between India and Pakistan.
