Bangladesh's pace of economic expansion is likely to slow during the next 12 months, with real GDP growing 5.9% in fiscal-year 2007 (which ends in June 2007), compared with estimated growth of 6.4% in fiscal-year 2006. The Asian Development Bank predicts inflation-adjusted GDP growth of 6.0% in fiscal-year 2007. A slowdown will occur for two main reasons: first, monetary policy will tighten in order to keep a lid on inflation, and second, political uncertainty will heighten thanks to a general election scheduled for January 2007.
