What To Expect In 2011

BMI View: North Korea's top priority in 2011 will be to ensure that the conditions are in place for a smooth transfer of power from Kim Jong Il to his son Kim Jong Un, which will most probably take place after 2012. The regime will thus place a heavy emphasis on the economy, although success will be virtually impossible. We also expect to see more provocations on Pyongyang's part, as Kim Jong Un shores up his military credentials.
