Campaigning Against War Crimes Probe Of Myanmar's Junta

The government of China has been involved in a high-octane diplomatic campaign during the last two months to foil US plans to support an international investigation into possible war crimes by military rulers in Myanmar, the Washington Post reported. The initiative by the US was designed against Myanmar's military junta for failing to involve the political opposition in the country's general elections scheduled for November 7. Meanwhile, China has reportedly requested European and Asian countries and the UN leadership to oppose the probe on the grounds that it could potentially weaken Myanmar's political transition.
