Malaysia is being used by Islamic and non-Islamic militant groups to strengthen their causes and hire new members, a senior minister in charge of domestic security, Hishammuddin Hussein, said on June 15. The minister added that the country was being used for financial dealings, sharing of information and employment of new members. Hishammuddin's statements follow the deportation of 10 foreigners on June 15 for trying to recruit students to wage 'holy war' overseas. Sabah is a particularly attractive area for Islamic militant activity due to its porous borders with neighbouring states.
