June Strikes To Raise Minimum Wage
June 2010 | Ratings UpdateUnion officials announced that a three day strike to pressure the government to raise minimum wages for garment workers by 40% will begin in June. BMI expects the strike to exert pressure on Cambodia's policymakers as the garment industry represents a significant portion of the country's exports. In 2006, government officials agreed that the minimum wage policy would be open for discussion again in 2010, therefore we believe that the government is likely to raise wages soon so as to prevent further strikes down the line.
