Beijing-Kabul: Deepening Ties And A Possible Alternative Anchor

BMI View: Afghan President Hamid Karzai's visit to Beijing is indicative of Kabul's increasing desire to diversify its foreign allies, especially given that ties with the West are becoming strained. However, while China has considerable interests in Afghanistan, it is unlikely to become too heavily involved there, given the country's inherent dangers and Beijing's cautious approach.
