January 2010 | Ratings UpdateSingapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong concluded a two-day visit to Cuba in early December, seeking to enhance the relationship between Singapore and the Caribbean island. Lee met Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Ventura. An IE Singapore delegation, accompanying Lee, has shown interest in business opportunities with Cuba in the fields of fishery, ports, science and technology. Currently, bilateral trade is limited to only US$3.6mn a year due in large part to trade sanctions imposed on Cuba by the US. However, the two sides have set up partnerships in the areas of science and technology.
