Trairong Suwankiri, a senior member of the Democrat Party has been nominated by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to take on the role of public health minister, on top of his existing positions as a deputy prime minister overseeing economic matters according to the Bangkok Post. Former health minister Witthaya Kaewparadai resigned on December 29 in the wake of an alleged corruption scandal involving the health ministry and Trairong was selected in the hope of stabilising the political situation without causing a rift within the party. Going forward, there may also be a Cabinet reshuffle in March or April.
