Singapore concluded its sixth joint ministerial meeting with Australia on July 27 and both countries pledged to continue working together. Ties between the two countries have been good since Singapore's senior minister Goh Chok Tong inculcated a close partnership with Australia when he was premier in 1996. Indeed, Singapore has a joint trade, defense and foreign affairs dialogue with Australia. In addition, trade between the two sides has been burgeoning since a free trade agreement was inked between the two countries in 2003.
