Former President's Suicide Sharpens Old Divisions
June 2009 | Political Risk AnalysisFollowing the unexpected suicide of former president Roh Moo-hyun, opposition politicians have blamed the ruling administration, as local prosecutors revealed damaging details of a corruption probe into the Roh and his family. While we do not think that the tensions will erupt into widespread unrest, they have prompted an upwelling of sentiment against the Grand National Party (GNP), which could make it more difficult to conduct policy in this difficult period.
