Garment Producers Overlooked
April 2009 | Economic AlertFollowing the announcement of a US$500mn government stimulus package on April 19, Bangladeshi textile producers complained that they had been left out in the cold, despite being the largest earner of exports earnings and a major driver of economic growth. According to Abdul Hai Sarker, president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, the sector accounts for 80% of overseas sales and is responsible for employing 7 million workers.
