As we go to press there are news that the opposition, and pro-independence, Democratic Progressive Party, which was catapulted out of office in the 2008 elections, are planning a demonstration against the government's proposed amendment to the public assembly law. The chairwoman of the DPP, Tsai Ing-Wen, has criticised the mooted changes for giving the police excessive authority to determine the authority of a public assembly.
