At the heart of the widening corruption probe, which has now engulfed Roh's brother as well as former aides, is a US$1mn payment the ex-president's wife accepted from a shoe company executive. Although his wife has admitted receipt of the payment, Roh dismissed the case against him since he claims not to have known about it until he was out of office.
