Unemployment In Focus
April 2009 | Economic AnalysisIndonesia's unemployment rate will continue to rise over the coming quarters as the global recession continues to hurt exports. And, although exports only account for around 50% of GDP, job losses in the sector will have a significant impact on headline economic activity given that private consumption remains the main driver of growth. Moreover, we remain concerned that incoherent government polices aimed at boosting employment may exacerbate the problem.
