Former President Chen Shui-bian pleaded innocent to charges of graft and money laundering on February 24, despite a number of his family members having confessed to related charges a fortnight earlier. Prosecutors have charged Chen with embezzling TWD104mn (US$3mn) from a special presidential office fund, accepting bribes of around TWD9mn related to a land procurement deal and taking another TWD2.73mn in kickbacks to help a contractor win its bid for a government project.
