Myanmar’s National Convention, which is to draft a new constitution ahead of eventual elections, is expected to reconvene in November. With the opposition National League for Democracy boycotting the convention, the chances of it delivering the elusive political breakthrough are slim. However, there is little to suggest the military’s hold on power is slipping. The military has coerced an ever-increasing portion of the population into its net. A military-dominated political system is likely in the short and medium term.
