Opposition Ends Boycott
February 2006 | Ratings UpdateSouth Korea’s main opposition party, the Grand National Party (GNP) ended its two-month long boycott of parliament in February after the ruling Uri Party accepted its demand to revise a controversial schools bill. The GNP boycott, following the passing of a law aimed at reforming private schools, put the National Assembly in limbo, delaying the appointment of new ministers. However, despite the resuming of normal parliamentary business, the political scene is likely to remain volatile, with the Uri Party still not holding a parliamentary majority
