Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao achieved a major diplomatic victory for China over its arch rival, Taiwan, during a December visit to Washington, which included a meeting with US President George W. Bush. In a statement after the meeting, the US president said that he opposed any attempt by either side to unilaterally change the status quo on Taiwan.
