Bangladesh's December 18 general election looks set once again to be a battle between former premiers Begum Khaleda Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Sheikh Hasina Wajed of the Awami League. Khaleda was freed from a year's detention on September 11, while Hasina was due to return from medical treatment in the US on October 17. It is unclear if Hasina will be detained for corruption, but Khaleda is facing fresh corruption charges.
