Deputy Transport Minister Fired

The Secreteriat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), i.e. the politburo, dismissed Nguyen Viet Tien from his position as deputy transport minister in a decree issued on August 28. Tien has been blamed for negligence in his supervisory duties, following the revelation in 2005 that funds intended for road and bridge projects in Northern Vietnam were used in gambling by transport ministry employees.
