The sabre-rattling between Thailand and Cambodia over land surrounding the 900-year old Preah Vihear temple, which reached a high pitch in late July, appears to be cooling with the withdrawal of a detachment of Thai soldiers from another temple on August 5. After the pullback, the Cambodian deputy military chief, Pov Heng, told media that the 'military tension is over'. While throngs of soldiers from both countries are still stationed at around Preah Vihar as we go to press, we expect to see remaining troops withdrawn in due course too.
