Laying The Ground For Elections

BMI View: With the caretaker government and the Awami League (AL) party now finding some common ground ahead of the national elections scheduled for December, we believe the latter party could soon emerge as the military and government's preferred contender in the polls. If so, the military-backed government will have failed to address the deep rivalry between the AL and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party which has marred the country's politics over the past two decades, but could still have some made progress on rooting out corruption.
