March 2008 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: We see a marked improvement in cross-Strait relations and Taiwan's business environment going forward as the next president is likely to scale back regulatory restrictions on doing business with mainland China. A contentious referendum on applying for UN membership under the name of Taiwan could, however, ignite the ire of Chinese leaders in the short term, but we foresee no major escalation of hostilities.
