Anti-Corruption Key in 2008
January 2008 | Ratings UpdateFighting corruption will be one of the most important tasks for the government in 2008, according to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. The main focus will be centred on agencies managing state assets and public land. Corrupt government and local officials have been a cause behind much discontent in recent years and is thus seen as a threat to Communist Party rule. Vietnam ranked 123rd out of 180 in Transparency International's 2007 Corruption Perception Index, illustrating the gravity of the situation.
