CNY: Expect Faster Gains In 2008

Having seen average monthly appreciation of 0.45% through the first ten months of 2007, the yuan gained 0.84% in November, and 1.30% in December (the largest monthly gain since the unit was revalued in 2005). We expect this faster pace of appreciation to continue throughout early 2008. CNY7.2500/US$ is the next key level to watch for, a break beyond which would presage gains towards the crucial CNY7.0000/US$
