January 2008 | Ratings UpdateThailand and Cambodia have agreed to allow foreign visitors to enter on a single visa, in what is hoped will be the first in a series of visa initiatives with neighbouring countries. Efforts to streamline the visa process are aimed at boosting tourist numbers in the region. Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong holds high hopes that similar agreements will soon be signed with Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam, expressing his desire 'to see the five countries become one tourist destination'. Tourism is becoming an increasingly important driver of economic growth in Cambodia as visitor arrivals continue to swell; these rose 18.6% y-o-y to 1.76mn in the first 11 months of 2007.
