January 2008 | Ratings UpdateChinese customs saw revenues rise 24.3% y-o-y in 2007, as trade soared and new tariffs and taxes took effect. Robust expansion of domestic consumption, investment and exports helped push total revenues to CNY758.5bn (US$104bn), according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC), as did strong import growth, which reached 20.5% y-o-y in the first 11 months of 2007. Increases in export taxes across a range of high energy-consuming and polluting products, and higher consumption taxes on a number of luxury goods added roughly CNY20bn, according to the agency.
