Beijing Pushes For Finalisation of Constitution

Myanmar's regime has announced that the so-called National Convention, which has been drafting a new constitution for the past 14 years, will enter into its final session on July 18. The announcement has been met with little trust by the internal pro-democracy opposition as well as foreign powers and multilaterals such as the US, the European Union and the United Nations. However, the regime's increasing ties with China has served to alleviate the cost of international isolation.
