Region To Benefit From Rise Of South-South Investment
June 2007 | Market StrategyOver the past decade, the emergence of 'Southern' multinational corporations (MNCs) has reflected the increasing maturity among emerging economies and their diversification away from a long established dependency on developed markets. In 2004, South-South investment (i.e. investment between emerging markets) reached a new all-time high, as US$59.8bn flowed between emerging markets. Having dropped off somewhat since the mid-nineties (although South-South FDI did pick up strongly between 1998-2000) the South-South FDI phenomenon now looks poised to make a firm return.
