Huang Ju, vice premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China and a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, died following a long illness on June 2. Huang was a key leader of the so-called 'Shanghai clique' of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) - the dominance of which President Hu Jintao has steadily been trying to reduce.
