Korea and EU Open Free Trade Talks
May 2007 | Ratings UpdateThe prolonged dispute between Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, the two leading presidential candidates, over the features of the opposition Grand National Party's primary elections in August has increased the uncertainties ahead of the December elections. Lee, who declared his candidacy on May 10, is the most popular presidential candidate with the public, with approval ratings of 40% in opinion polls. Park is hoping to profit from her stronger standing within the party and is therefore opposed to giving public opinion polls a heavier weighting in the primaries. We believe Lee will draw the longer straw in both the primaries and the elections.
